Lacresha Goodwin

Lacresha Goodwin is a Fine Art Major at SVSU with a concentration in drawing and painting. She is in the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Program, which, upon acceptance, requires a strong portfolio that showcases the students’ best work. The program challenges students and helps to prepare them for their career. After graduation, Lacresha wants to get her teaching certification so that she can teach Art. “My ultimate goal is to teach and still create my own artwork. Eventually, I would really like to showcase my artwork.”

Lacresha’s decision to go to college was centered on finding a place that had flexibility with classes. “I have children and so I needed to be able to take night and day classes while still working.”

Lacresha loves the Fine Arts Program because, “it allows you to explore your own creativity. You’re free to create what you want with small guidelines.” Another aspect Lacresha noted was the constructive criticism. “Many professors criticize your artwork because they want it to be the best it can be. You can either take it or leave it. I choose to take the criticism in stride because I want to be using my ability to my fullest potential. The questions that professors ask really help to prepare you for the BFA showing.”

Professor Zivich and Professor Hirsch are two professors that have helped Lacresha immensely. “These professors are really tough and not easy to please but they help you make your project the best. They have taught me self-discipline to keep trying, even if I don’t succeed the first or second time.”

“Saginaw Valley has really helped me realize my full potential. I have goals and I know that I can achieve them, thanks to the discipline I now have.”
