The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the University. He provides leadership for the overall administration and quality of all academic programs, ensuring the effective delivery of the curriculum and the development of new programs. Dr. Bachand serves as a member of the President's Planning Council and presides over the Council of Deans and Directors. The Deans of the five colleges, the Director of the Library, the Director of Instructional Support & Writing Programs, the Director of the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, the Director of the Office of Sponsored and Academic Program Support, the Office of Institutional Research, the Registrar, the Chairperson of the Institutional Review Board, and the Director of the Honors Program report to him. The VPAA is also responsible for administrative appointments to standing committees such as Professional Practices Committee, Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee, Graduate Committee and General Education Committee.

Dr. Peretz is responsible for assessment of academic programs, administration of online education, and coordination of faculty development and awards. He chairs the Academic Program Advisory Board and prepares an annual academic assessment report for accreditation purposes. He is responsible for developing policies and procedures for online education. Dr. Peretz chairs the committees that select the Landee Teaching Excellence Award, the Earl L. Warrick Award for Research Excellence, and the House Family Award. He works closely with the Academic Vice President in allocating resources, including research and release time grants, and assists in the operation of the Office of Academic Affairs. He also serves on the President's Staff, the Council of Deans and Directors, the General Education Committee, and the Student Research and Creativity Institute.

The Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs works closely with the Vice President for Academic Affairs on class schedule preparation and is responsible for the assignment of all classrooms. She serves on several university committees, including the Curriculum and Academic Policies Committee and coordinates curriculum revisions for inclusion in the University catalog. She also works closely with the Academic Deans and faculty on issues involving tenure and promotion eligibility, faculty teaching loads, supplemental contracts and independent study compensation. She does research and carries out special projects as assigned by the VPAA.

The Project Coordinator and Information Specialist serves as the principal editor of the University catalog, works with the five colleges and Web Communications to develop, update and maintain college web sites, and works to ensure accuracy and consistency between the University website and the University catalog. Others duties include work on the Academic Affairs events calendar and the coordination of University data for the Higher Learning Commission self-study.

The Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs prepares the schedule of classes for each semester, including the final exam schedule. She maintains and monitors selected student scholarships, including the Presidential Scholarship and the Award for Excellence. Other responsibilities include verifying and coordinating the distribution of adjunct faculty contracts and maintaining the computer database for teaching load information for both full-time and part-time faculty.

The Administrative Assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs coordinates the daily work of the VPAA by scheduling appointments and setting up meetings. She establishes office-related meeting agendas and keeps minutes for all such meetings including the Council of Deans and Directors. She gathers and assembles data and drafts reports. She assists students with specific problems and advises them on University policies and procedures. She also organizes and maintains all office files and oversees the activities of the student assistants employed by the office.

The Administrative Secretary provides secretarial support to the Office of Academic Affairs, mainly in the areas of three standing committees (GE, CAPC, and GC) and academic program assessment activities. She performs budgeting functions for Academic Affairs grants, professional development, endowments and departmental accounts as assigned. She provides routine information on policies and procedures to students, faculty and various administrative offices. She also assists in the revisions of the Academic Affairs, GEC, CAPC, and Graduate Committee websites.
