As a music student at SVSU, you will benefit from our modern curricula that provide both the practical and theoretical backgrounds you will need to succeed in music and music education.
- Music Majors
The Department of Music offers professional caliber programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music Education. If you wish to pursue a general degree in music, the B.A. in Music is designed to provide you with strong preparation in music theory, music history and literature and performance. The professional course of study leading to the B.A. in Music Education is designed for students whose goal is to teach music in grades K-12. Students receiving the B.A. in Music Education are eligible to apply for a Michigan teaching license in music, and to pursue teaching positions in general, vocal and instrumental music. - Music Minor
A general Music Minor is for students wishing to have music as their declared minor. - Applying to the Department of Music
An applied audition and theory assessment are required prior to being accepted as a music or music education major. Prospective minors are required to take a theory assessment prior to being accepted into one of the minor programs.
