The Department of History offers a major and a minor in history. All students majoring in history are required to complete 42 credits as indicated below. Students must complete HIST 111 by the end of their Junior year (92 credits). Students who have more than 92 credits will substitute HIST 494 (3 credits). History courses usually do not have prerequisites. Students considering taking history courses should observe the following definitions:
All students should consult their departmental advisor to plan a program of study to fit their individual, personal and career objectives. A history major is excellent preparation for professional post-graduate training in business and law schools. Students with these career goals should seek additional guidance from the departmental chairperson.
