Transfer Student Orientation at Saginaw Valley State University
Transfer Orientation Program (TOP) F.A.Q.
Why is TOP necessary?
At SVSU, we feel it is important for students to become familiar with academic requirements, important deadlines, and the University calendar. We also want to help students find their way around campus and introduce them to academic support services and extracurricular opportunities. During orientation transfer students will complete madatory placement testing requirements, review their transfer credit evaluation, receive academic advising, schedule classes, and have the opportunity to meet with financial aid advisors.
Is TOP mandatory?
Yes, attending a TOP is MANDATORY for all new transfer students.
When will I receive information about TOP?
Beginning in March, if you have applied and been accepted to SVSU, you should receive a TOP packet. Included will be information on the TOP program, return envelope, and reservation form. To make a reservation, fill out the reservation form and mail it back with your payment of $20.00. Please do not send cash.
Note: Your reservation will not be made if we do not receive payment with the form.
Will I get the TOP day I want?
TOP days are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. When students register for a TOP, they will preference their top three days. Once the registration is received, confirmation materials with the assigned TOP date will be mailed to the student.
Is there an orientation session for my parents?
Due to the low number of parents interested in attending a parent orientation on transfer orientation dates SVSU does not offer a Parents Orientation Program on TOP dates, but transfer parents are invited to attend Parent Orientation Programs offered on freshmen orientation dates.
How many students attend each TOP?
There are approximately 65 students per each TOP.
