Student Orientation Academic Registration (SOAR) F.A.Q.

Why is orientation necessary?

At SVSU, we feel it is important for students to become familiar with the campus and introduce students to the exciting academic opportunities. During orientation, students will receive information on academic requirements, advising, and schedule for fall semester classes.

Is orientation mandatory?

Orientation is MANDATORY for all incoming students.

When will I receive information about SOAR?

After you have applied and been accepted to SVSU, you should receive a SOAR packet. Included will be information on the SOAR program, parent program information, return envelope, and reservation form. To make a reservation, fill out the reservation form and mail it back with your payment of $55.00. Please do not send cash.

Note: Your reservation will not be made if we do not receive payment with the form.

Will I get the orientation day I want?

Orientation days are reserved on a first come, first served basis. When students register for a SOAR, they will preference their top three days. Once the registration is received, confirmation materials with the assigned SOAR date will be mailed to the student.

Is there an orientation session for my parents?

Yes!  SVSU has a Parents Orientation Program.  The parents invite is sent separately from the students.

Will I see my parents during SOAR?

No. The parents program is separate from the student program.

How many students attend each SOAR?

There are approximately 130 students per each SOAR.
