Jeremy Bockelman

Assistant director of Career Planning & Placement  (CP&P) Jeremy Bockelman has one primary message to share with parents ---have your student meet with CP&P early in their college days.  He observes that most people (students and parents alike) think of career planning services as something to tap into in the senior year, as graduation approaches.  Not so, says Jeremy.

"We can help from the first year to graduation, and even beyond.  We meet with students one-on-one and can help them in a variety of ways, ranging from personal development, to connecting interests to opportunities."  Jeremy points out several resources and services provided by CP&P that are all free to students:  resume workshops, career fairs, finding internships and on-campus student employment, job search strategies, and graduate school preparation, to name a few.   CP&P, he adds, helps students early on find ways to engage themselves in activities on-campus that help build experience, and resumes.

What's different about SVSU, thinks Jeremy, is the fact that students have tremendous access to all sorts of resources --- technical and human.  "When I recall my own undergraduate experience at another university, I didn't know about the help and the opportunities.  Here, the engagement and the sense of community is amazing.  Truly, we are a ‘Village' when it comes to working together to help our students."
